Belite Bio Inc. (NASDAQ:BLTE) is having a good Friday. The stock jumped more than 9% after Canaccord Genuity stepped in with a bullish initiation, and the excitement is all about one drug: tinlarebant, a potential treatment for an inherited eye disease that currently has no approved therapies.
Analyst Whitney Ijem started coverage with a Buy rating and a price target of $303. That's a big vote of confidence when you consider the stock closed at $171.09 on September 3. The target implies the shares could nearly double from there, and Ijem's reasoning is pretty straightforward: tinlarebant could be a blockbuster.
The Road to Approval
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has already accepted the marketing application for tinlarebant and granted it Priority Review for Stargardt disease type 1 (STGD1). The PDUFA date, the deadline for the FDA to make its decision, is set for February 12, 2027. That's not too far off in the world of drug development.
Ijem's optimism isn't just based on the regulatory calendar. She's been talking to physicians, and the feedback is enthusiastic. The unmet need is high, the drug is oral (which patients prefer over injections), and the tolerability profile looks favorable. Based on that, she's modeling a U.S. launch in 2027 and projecting around $6 billion in U.S. sales by 2033. That's a serious revenue stream for a company that's still pre-commercial.
But the U.S. is just the beginning. Japan is next in line, with a Sakigake designation that could speed things along. Canaccord conservatively models a 2028 launch there, with peak sales around $700 million. The rest of the world, which Canaccord estimates at roughly $5 billion in opportunity, is seen as upside for now. The company is making progress in other markets, but the timelines aren't clear yet, so the analysts are keeping those out of their base case.
China's NMPA has agreed to accept an NDA with priority review, and the U.K.'s MHRA has agreed to accept a Conditional Marketing Authorization application based on interim data from the DRAGON trial. But without specific filing timelines, Canaccord is playing it safe and excluding those markets from their valuation. That's a sign of discipline, but it also means there's potential for positive surprises down the road.
Beyond Stargardt: The GA Opportunity
Tinlarebant isn't just a one-trick pony. Ijem also sees geographic atrophy (GA), a more common cause of blindness in older adults, as a significant upside opportunity. Phase 3 data for GA is expected around the third quarter of 2027, and that could be a major catalyst for the stock.
GA is a multibillion-dollar market with roughly 1 million patients in the U.S. alone. But it's also more competitive, so the analyst is waiting to see the Phase 3 results to better understand tinlarebant's efficacy and how management plans to position the drug in that space. If the data is strong, this could open up a whole new revenue stream.
At the time of publication on Friday, Belite Bio shares were up 9.63% at $187.56, inching closer to the 52-week high of $200.00. The market is clearly paying attention, and with a PDUFA date on the horizon and a potential GA catalyst in 2027, there's a lot to watch.
